History
Vintage cars have been extremely popular for a long time now. However, at present interest in them is really blooming again. Stephan Musfeld has been a vintage car enthusiast since the days of his youth. So, when he happened to hear about the vacant premises formerly occupied by the Züblin repair and machinery workshop in Muttenz, the project became virtually inevitable. And thus it came about that Basle once again became Switzerland’s centre for yet another theme of special interest.
However, the building of the Pantheon in Basle is not founded exclusively on Stephan Musfeld’s passionate interest in vintage cars. He is also very interested in building as such. In his office, there is a whole range of historical surveying devices which he has collected over the years. As a qualified construction engineer, he speaks with great admiration for the people who erected such impressive structures using these highly precise, but nevertheless relatively simple devices. In their final form, many of these constructions, whether they were bridges, roads or tunnels, were often masterpieces, even though the engineers who created them hardly regarded themselves as artists and did not view the fruits of their labour as works of art.
From an architectural point of view, the forum will be integrated into the substance of the historic building dating from 1965. The circular building has a diameter of 50 m and with its unsupported, pre-stressed roof-cladding represents a brilliant technical achievement.
